What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is a web based tool that can be used by faculty to support their courses. The use by faculty varies, but Blackboard can be used to provide access to a course syllabus or handouts, out-of-class discussions, and links to required reading. Your instructor will provide more information on how Blackboard will be used in their specific class.

How do I access Blackboard?
You can access Blackboard from any computer, on or off-campus, as long as you have an Internet connection. On campus you can go to any campus computer and have high speed Internet access to Blackboard. Just click here to visit the Blackboard Splash Page.

What is my username and password?
Your Blackboard username is the same as your SRU email username. You may also look your username up in the online campus directory by clicking here.

Your password is set initially to be your birth date, in a 6 digit format ( MMDDYY ).

After I login, what do I do?
After you login, you are on the "My Institution" tab. Explore the links available to you on this page as they are very useful. On the right side of this page find "My Courses." You will find a link to each of your courses that has a Blackboard component (please note that all courses do not utilize Blackboard - check with your instructor to find out if there is a Blackboard component to any course).

Ok, I found my course links, now what do I do?
Click on one of your courses. You will enter each course on an Announcements page. Faculty can use this tool to alert you to important information. The left side has a column of navigation buttons. Explore the menu items. Please remember that faculty use different tools, so there is no "one answer" or what you need to do in each course. Your instructor will provide more detail about their specific Blackboard usage and expectations.

Can I change my password?
Yes, on the left side of the My Institution tab look for the link called Personal Information . You may enter there and change your password. Please remember your password, and also remember that changing your Blackboard password does NOT change your campus network password.

Oooops. I forgot my password. Now what do I do?
On the Blackboard login page look for the link called, "Forgot Password". Click on that link and enter your basic identification information. Your password will be reset to your initial password (birth date in 6 digit format). An email will be sent to you informing you of the password reset.
